Hello all ye knights and knaves! My name is Liz, and I've created this site/blog as a place to gather all the thoughts and observations that have taken over my entire brain since I found Jim Gavin's ineffably wonderful existential TV show, Lodge 49.
As you no doubt are aware, like so many uniquely good and incredibly promising young smart shows, this one was cancelled before it got a chance to fully unfurl what was undoubtedly an exquisitely explored story. It's nothing short of devastating. We all feel the same way about this, so I won't dwell on it (and also I will be holding out hope for season 3 until I'm dead, so there's only so mournful I want to get).
With all that said, let's get back to the purpose of this blog. I found the show about 2 weeks ago, and have barely thought of anything else since. I've been neglecting work and my kids and housework. There was just no way to avoid how all-encompassing Lodge 49 was for me, and I dove in with both feet in a way I haven't done with any art I can remember.
The amount of meaning, references, cross-references, and magic meaning-changing filters that are packed so densely into the writing of this show is completely unmatched. This was immediately obvious to me, and coupled with my loves of Alchemical Philosophy, Tarot, The Pyramids, The Stars, Earthly Truths, The Universe, and Humanity - and all the wonderfully omnipresent threads that tie them all together - I have been doing little else but exploding in a big bang of observations, thoughts, joy, and real-life permeation since I first pressed play.
I really couldn't stand the idea that I would never be able to get down all the ideas and connections and sparks of realisation that were twirling around in my mind, so I figured I should just try to BLURT it out somewhere. This blog is that blurt.
Anyway, again we have all kind of felt a little something like that, and I'm sure it's nice to be reminded. But I'll leave it there and let all the fan gushing come out in my next posts, where I will be breaking down certain specific theories or topics related to the show.
